When the kids can’t get along.

And it’s over dumb stuff.

And I don’t have the mental energy (or maybe self-discipline?)

To walk them through a deep, heartfelt conversation on preferring one another, loving each other more than they love toys, etc.

I just force them to hug.

And they start out so, so mad about the idea.

But I know it can’t last.

So they hug.

And I wait.

For this.

How to make a crib sheet

(Note: there are several elaborate crib sheet patterns out there, this isn’t a very original idea… )

Step one: Call and ask your Mom to come over and teach you.

Step two: Cut a piece of fabric 45″x70″ (plus some seam allowance)

Step three: Cut 8.75″ squares from each corner (bigger if you have a thicker crib mattress)

Step four: Sew the two sides of the squares that you cut together (right sides together). Does that make sense? When you see it, it will.

Step five: Add elastic (I did that easy fold then stretch-as-you-sew-zig-zag method)

Step six: Give mom coffee and something sweet.

Step seven: Convince Mom that it was so much fun, she needs to come help with a crib skirt and bumper next!

In the barn. We’re not sure what started this…

Or where she picked up so many sweet moves…

But it is pretty fun.

Even if it is the same melody over. and. over. again.

Every. Single. Day. (A theme from Dvorak’s symphony number 9)

She changes the words, though. And changes instruments sometimes, too.

Arthur claps for her. Every time. And she beams. He’s a really good brother that way.

So yeah, like I said, we’ve been seeing some awesome shows lately.

The Party

Just a simple family party… but it had all of Penelope’s birthday wishes: grandparents, aunts and uncles, party hats, a cake with candles, watermelon, decorations, and a bowl of marshmallows on the counter.

(and only a few pictures.. because Mama was too busy partying… )

How behind am I?!

Sorry, guys.

On Penelope’s actual birthday (a few days before her party), we let her open a special package that came from Louisville. And I’ve promised Beth & Wes pictures ever since!

It was a sweet morning. I woke up (early!!) to a little girl tapping my shoulder,

“Mama? Mama? Is it my birthday? I sure do think so! Mama. Look. Look at me! Look at this!”

(I crack my sleepy eyes open, to see a girl spreading her arms and jutting her belly forward)

“Mama! Look! I’m FOUR!”
