Me and Case like to go to the same places on a regular basis. Eventually you start to recognize people who have the same patterns. It makes it easier to talk to someone, and build relationships.

I think that means we’re kind of stalkers. I guess i’m okay with that? Being stalkers has worked out well for us in the past. After all, we met the some of our best friends in a slightly-ghetto-Target. If i recall correctly.. it went a little something like this {and by recall, I mean I found the dialogue recorded on our old blog}:

okay, just one more random kentucky story:

yesterday we were in target picking up a cheap bookshelf, and another couple seemed to be doing the same..

stranger (girl): “are you guys from around here?”

me: “no, sorry! we’ve only been here a week and a half”

stranger (girl): “well, you’ve got us beat, we got here last night!”

casey: “wow, well, maybe we can help…”

**we gave them some directions to another place to shop**

them: “so what brings you all out here?”

us: “casey’s going to school”

them: “at southern?”

us: “yeah.. you guys too?!”

them: “yeah! wow!”

**we exchanged phone numbers and they’re coming over for dinner tomorrow night**

Anyway, as I was saying. We like patterns. Penelope is particularly fond of this one.. because it involves, “The park? The big one? The one with the twisty?! (pause. grin.) Okay.. let’s gooooooooooo!” And I’ve been able to connect with one mom a few different times.. our girls seem to enjoy each other.. and she’s easy to talk to. It makes the park a little more fun, for me anyway :).

And um. For the record… swing pictures are sometimes… well… I’ll let you see for yourself..

Casey’s dad is a firefighter.

But not this kind of firefighter (though, there is an engine at his station):

No he put in lots of years {read: countless brushfires}, so he’s earned a place at a different kind of station. He works on the fireboat. Therefore, we enjoyed a nice little Christmas Eve cruise.

Can you tell Casey was having a good day? (yay!)

To Grandmother’s house we go..

My grandparents live in a {beautiful} home just outside of Phoenix. We were so determined to make it there that we drove all the way from Amarillo, Texas. Feel free to map that. It took 15 hours.

We were thrilled to see them. And the warm bowl of albondigas soup. And the {non-motel-6} bed.

Grandma has always been reminded of her firstborn son when she sees pictures of Arthur. She finally got her hands on him..

And Aunt Mary and Uncle Wayne have recently relocated to Arizona. They were kind enough to make the drive to see us. I can’t wait to see them again, with a little more sleep under my belt. And a little of Uncle Wayne’s Chile Verde in my stomach.

Dad and Papa managed to squeeze in a round of golf. Economou men are hardy stock. Especially when it comes to fitting golf games into busy/tiring days.

And this little stinker? Well, she shared a lovely parting gift with her great grandparents. The stomach flu. Sorry Papa!

Nashville has a great little zoo. We’re members of the zoo in Louisville and therefore gained free entrance!

They have maybe the coolest playground I’ve ever encountered. Penelope was in awe, Arthur napped. Kind of how things go around here.. but not for long. Arthur can’t wait to keep up with his big sister, it’s all the pesky napping that gets in his way.

The Great Walberg Wedding

Casey and Matt did gymnastics together when they were 5 and 6 years old.. Matt was the first person to approach me when I started at a new school in third grade. In short, we’ve all been friends for a very long time. He’s family, really. So we couldn’t miss his wedding, just couldn’t. We had a wonderful weekend down in Nashville, seeing the city (and more importantly, the girl) he’s fallen in love with. The wedding couldn’t have been more beautiful– interesting urban setting, perfect weather, good food, and sweet people. I don’t have many pictures of the ceremony because Casey was a groomsmen and I wrangled both kids.. but trust me, it was lovely.

A few details to note:

Casey didn’t faint!
Penelope made fast friends with the wedding coordinator’s three-year-old son. They spent quite a long time doing somersaults together, after which the young man proudly announced that he loved Penelope and wished to make her his girlfriend. This apparently entailed giving high fives, and doing more somersaults. Penelope was oblivious, Casey was leery.
The flower girl was incredibly sweet and loved both kids.. Arthur enjoyed holding her hand at every opportunity, and Penelope wanted to sit next to her constantly.
Penelope slept in a closet each night. We called it her special hotel bedroom. Someday she’ll be horrified.
The kids are excellent car travelers. It’s shocking, really.
