I don’t want to give you the impression that Penelope is always studious, bookwormish, or nerdy. It certainly is a facet of her personality, but sometimes, this girl is just plain silly.

I have NO idea what inspired the following craziness. There was no music. There was no video. There was no sugar. I cannot explain it, except to say that my girl knows how to bring the crazy.

penelope girl is big into counting these days. here she is looking at the numbers on a clock with daddy:

…and in baby news:

well, the good news is that baby is doing great! unfortunately, though, i’m measuring the same as i did at 40 weeks with penelope. normally this wouldn’t matter, but because of the extra stress this is putting on the scar from my previous c-section, it means a vbac is becoming less likely. under typical circumstances a vbac has very minimal risk, but certain factors can make it less safe.. including induction, which would be the other logical alternative. while a repeat c-section isn’t our first choice, we’re both really thankful that the safest option is becoming more obvious. if nothing changes in the next week or so, we’re looking at a 2/5 birthday!

yeah. that’s two weeks from friday. (insert freak out here)

the hospital has been working on their wireless internet for patients, so we’re hoping to live-blog again this time, and keep everyone up to speed on that day. there are gender bets that need to be settled, after all :).

…and in casey news:

classes start next week! he’s taking hebrew syntax and exegesis, hermeneutics, and worship leadership. this schedule keeps him on track for a summer ’11 graduation date. can you believe it?! of course, it looks like there is more school up next.. but at least we’re already in that mode.

okay. i planned to write more, but i am officially out of steam. baby is already wearing me out :)

Now I know you’ll be seeing Penelope in a few days, and to just anyone, these videos are neither here nor there. But let’s face it, the grandparent brain isn’t wired like just anyone. You crazies love uneventful Penelope videos.

And I mean that lovingly.

Besides, you want to recognize her when you see her, right? So here you go, a few recent-ish, long videos of our wild-haired toddler girl:

1) e-dad (a portion of my evening is usually devoted to showing penelope any picture of dad that i can find. at her own request. and by request, i mean demand. oh and most activities these days involve some sort of pretend refreshment.)

2) swine flu (this captures the beginning of penelope’s hand-washing/sanitizing/moisturizing obsession. she loves to wash her hands, rub in lotion, etc.. even if it’s just pretend. note the excess is always rubbed on her pants, even the pretend excess)

3) misinformation (sometimes casey likes to run misinformation campaigns in our home. like when he taught penelope how to turn a flashlight on and off… by singing, and then blowing it out, of course…)

so my mom sent some fall clothes for miss penelope. and hair clips. i’ve learned, we musn’t forget hair clips. sometimes when i ask penelope to get her shoes, she runs to the other room and comes back with a hair clip.. then stands perfectly still for me to fix her hair. but that’s another story.

as i was saying. grandma sent some clothes, and wanted me to take pictures as she wore them. something about this concept thrills penelope. put on new, pretty clothes, and then have your picture taken. case and i cracked up when we saw her little poses– she looks like she thinks she is modeling for a department store catalog. she even asked to get up in the chair for a picture. i told her it would look like private school picture day.. but that didn’t slow her down.

this week has been a bit of a toddler boot camp, reminding our little darling who is in charge. penelope and i might not have this whole girly thing in common, but my girl certainly inherited her mother’s independent spirit strong will, and stubborn nature. casey, out of the sight of penelope, of course, gives me quite the hard time. he just grins, knowing that i had this coming. his grin isn’t so cheeky when i remind him that it just means he lives with TWO of us now ;).

penelope likes pretty things. especially if she thinks they make her look pretty.

we don’t know how this happened. clearly the day will come, and soon, when she realizes i am useless to her in this department. she will plead to any sympathetic ear, begging them to instruct her in the ways of makeup and fashion. oh the disappointment that i will be. heaven help her if she ever tries to convince me she needs another pair of shoes..

anyway.

the girl is fascinated with all things frilly– she loves brushing her hair, “wearing” make-up (and by “wearing,” i mean someone pretending to put it on her), admiring pretty dresses, and accessorizing. it is not at all unusual to have her toddle over, hand me a headband, and ask very nicely to wear it.

i think the best part is after she is wearing said headband… she says “oooOooO.” it sounds kind of like “oo la la,” and it is a very proud sound.

no. i take it back. the best part is when she puts a headband on casey and then smiles, admiring her handiwork. fathers of daughters–you know? they put up with so much.. and can’t even pretend to mind.

“don’t i look pretty?” (also note: she often wears one headband as a necklace… she’s just creative like that)
