baby is…

  • about 10.5 inches long and just shy of 1 lb
  • the length of a carrot, and size of a papaya
  • 130 days away from arrival (subject to change, hah)

today was THE ultrasound.

it’s settled: baby papaya is nothing like penelope. the movements i’ve felt are just so different. not only are they incredibly rare, but they always feel slow and relaxed. our ultrasound revealed a cozy little one, who sort of adjusted his/her feet once or twice.. but was otherwise content to chill. baby is measuring right on track, to the day, and is healthy. the placenta is nice and high, out of the way.

we couldn’t help but laugh when we got back to the car– the tech was able to get all of the measurements she needed, right away, with no interference from our sleepy baby. just as we expected. what an agreeable baby ;).

seeing that sweet little face, and those cozy legs–crossed casually at the ankles– made us SO anxious to cuddle him or her.

speaking of him or her, we resisted temptation, and gender remains a surprise. this was a challenge for me. i’m the kid who could never let a christmas present sit, unshaken, without a thorough investigation. i’m also a serious planner control-freak.  it’s lovely to have not caved, though. now i can enjoy the suspense. the tech was excited for us, she loves it when couples are surprised.

after my appointment we sat down to coffee and talked about names. seeing baby basically settled things for us. we narrowed our list down to two names– and you’ll find out as soon as we do ;).

    This is Jamie.
So, in my opinion, once you pick out names and get past the “we could have known today” ultrasound, then you are good to go! It becomes more fun too. Yippee! You look great, and I’m glad you feel better. My baby’s a wiggle worm… maybe it’s a girl like Penelope, although most say it’s a boy. Actually, the adults all say BOY and the kids all say GIRL. I wonder who will win – kids or grown-ups? :)

Our little guy is a lot more relaxed than Samantha was. She was always doing somersaults. Maybe that means you’re having a boy too since our pregnancies seem similar in that regard? :)

yay! You look cute. Georgie was always cooperative at ultrasounds….very cozy. But she sure knew how to jab and kick and somersault when we weren’t getting ultrasounds. Hopefully it means you’ll have a laid back baby!
